Hadith 6723

أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُصْعَبٍ بِمَرْوَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَكَمِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، عَنِ اللَّيْثِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَجْلانَ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِِنَّ اللَّهَ لا يَنْزِعُ الْعِلْمَ مِنَ النَّاسِ انْتِزَاعًا يَنْتَزِعُهُ مِنْهُمْ بَعْدَ إِِذْ أَعْطَاهُمُوهُ ، وَلَكِنْ بِقَبْضِ الْعُلَمَاءِ ، فَإِِذَا لَمْ يَبْقَ عَالِمٌ ، اتَّخَذَ النَّاسُ رُؤَسَاءَ جُهَّالا ، يَسْتَفْتُونَهُمْ فَيُفْتُونَ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ ، فَيُضِلُّونَ وَيَضِلُّونَ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) stated this from the pulpit: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The affair of this Ummah will always remain upon moderation (here the narrator is doubtful about a word), as long as they do not argue about children and destiny." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) Here, by children, it is meant the children of the polytheists (i.e., the debate about what will be their fate in the Hereafter).
