Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Indeed, Allah the Exalted folded the earth for me, until I saw its eastern and western parts. He granted me two treasures, red and white, (and granted this) that the rule of my Ummah will reach as far as the earth was folded for me. I asked my Lord for my Ummah that He not destroy them through a general famine, nor impose upon them an enemy from another nation who would annihilate them, nor divide them into groups so that they would begin to strike each other's necks. So the Lord said: O Muhammad! When I grant something to someone, there is none to withhold it. I have granted your Ummah that they will not be destroyed by a general famine, and I will not impose upon them an enemy from another nation who will annihilate them. However, I will divide them into different groups, until people from distant parts of the earth will gather; they will destroy one another, annihilate one another, and take one another captive. (The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:) Some tribes of my Ummah will return to the Turks and to the worshippers of idols. And what I fear most for my Ummah is the misguiding rulers. When the sword is placed among them, it will not be lifted from them until the Day of Resurrection. And soon, about thirty great liars will appear in my Ummah. I am the Seal of the Prophets; there is no prophet after me. A group from my Ummah will always remain steadfast upon the truth and will continue to be helped, until the command of Allah the Exalted comes."
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The correct word in the narration is "shirk" (polytheism).
