Samurah bin Sahm narrates: I went to Abu Hashim bin Utbah, who was suffering from the plague. Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) also came to visit him, and Abu Hashim began to weep. Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: O uncle! Why are you weeping? Are you in pain? Or are you doing this because you are leaving the world? Its purity has already departed. So Abu Hashim said: It is neither of these. The real matter is that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) took a covenant from me, and I wished that I had followed it. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: It may be that you will receive such wealth that will be distributed among the people, so for you, a servant and a mount to go in the way of Allah will suffice. (Abu Hashim said) I did receive those things and I also accumulated them.
