Sayyida Umm Zar (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: When the time of death of Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) approached, I began to weep. He asked: Why are you crying? I said: Why should I not cry when you are about to die in a deserted place? I do not even have enough cloth for your shroud, and it will not be possible for me to live in your absence. So Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Glad tidings for you, do not cry. I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "If two or three children of any two Muslims (husband and wife) die and both of them remain patient and hope for reward, they will never see the Fire (i.e., they will not enter Hell)." (Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) also said:) I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say to three men, among whom I was also present: "One of you will certainly die in a deserted place, but a group of believers will attend his funeral prayer."
(Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) said:) Each of those people died in a town or among people, and I am the only one left among them. By Allah! I have neither lied nor has anyone lied to me. You should keep watch for it. (Sayyida Umm Zar (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates:) I said: Now the pilgrims have departed, and the roads are cut off. So Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Go and check. Sayyida Umm Zar (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I quickly walked towards the hill and checked, then returned and began to nurse him. While we were in this state, some people arrived riding their mounts, as if they were birds. Their mounts had brought them. Sayyida Umm Zar (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: When those people stopped by me, they quickly came towards me and said: O servant of Allah, what is your matter? I said: A Muslim man is about to die. Will you provide him with a shroud? They asked: Who is that person? The woman replied: Sayyiduna Abu Dharr. They said: The companion of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? I replied: Yes. So they said: May my parents be sacrificed for him. Then they quickly went to Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) and presented themselves to him. Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) said to them: Glad tidings for you. I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say to some people, among whom I was also present: "One of you will die in a deserted place, and a group of believers will attend his funeral."
Then Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: (Except for me) each of them died among people (now only I am left). By Allah! I have neither lied nor has anyone lied to me. If I have enough cloth for my shroud or my wife has enough cloth, then only in my or my wife's cloth should I be shrouded. I ask you by Allah, none of you should shroud me who is an amir, or an 'arif, or a barid, or a naqib (i.e., a government official). There was no one among those present who did not hold one of these positions, except for one Ansari youth. He said: O uncle! I will shroud you. I will shroud you in this sheet of mine and in these two garments which my mother prepared for me. So Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: You shroud me. So that Ansari, in the presence of those present, shrouded Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him), took care of his (washing, etc.) affairs, and those same people buried Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him). All of them were from Yemen.
