أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الأَعْلَى بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدَ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَرْبِ بْنِ أَبِي الأَسْوَدِ الدِّيلِيِّ ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ ، قَالَ : أَتَانِي نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَأَنَا نَائِمٌ فِي مَسْجِدِ الْمَدِينَةِ ، فَضَرَبَنِي بِرِجْلِهِ ، وَقَالَ : أَلا أَرَاكَ نَائِمًا فِيهِ ؟ قُلْتُ : بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، غَلَبَتْنِي عَيْنِي ، قَالَ : " فَكَيْفَ تَصْنَعُ إِِذَا أُخْرِجْتَ مِنْهُ ؟ قُلْتُ : مَا أَصْنَعُ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ، أَضْرِبُ بِسَيْفِي ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَلا أَدُلُّكَ عَلَى مَا هُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ وَأَقْرَبُ رُشْدًا ، تَسْمَعُ وَتُطِيعُ ، وَتَنْسَاقُ لَهُمْ حَيْثُ سَاقُوكَ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began to recite this verse: "Whoever fears Allah, Allah will make a way out for him and provide for him from where he does not expect." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) kept repeating this verse until I became drowsy. He said: O Abu Dharr! If all people adopt this, it will be sufficient for them. Then he said: O Abu Dharr, what will you do when you are expelled from Madinah? I said: I will try, as much as I am able, to become like a pigeon of Makkah (i.e., I will move to Makkah). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: What will you do when you are expelled from Makkah as well? I said: I will try, according to my ability and status, to go towards the land of Shaam and the sacred land. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: What will you do when you are expelled from there as well? I said: In that case, by the One Who sent you with the truth, I will take my sword and hang it around my neck (and start fighting those people). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Is it not better than this that you obey and follow that Abyssinian slave with a cut nose and ears (who will be the ruler at that time)?
