Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri رضي الله عنه, or perhaps Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه, narrates: The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم sent Sayyiduna Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه (as the leader of Hajj). When he reached the place of Dajnan, he heard the sound of Sayyiduna Ali رضي الله عنه's camel and recognized it. Sayyiduna Ali رضي الله عنه came to him, so Sayyiduna Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه asked: What is the matter with me? He replied: It is good. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم has sent me (with the proclamation of disassociation from every treaty made with the disbelievers). (The narrator says) When we returned, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه went (to the Prophet). He said: O Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم! What is the matter with me? The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: It is good, you were my companion in the cave, but the situation was such that no one except me or someone related to me (from my family) could make this proclamation. By this, the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم meant Sayyiduna Ali رضي الله عنه.
