Ibn Hibban

Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The span of your existence compared to the previous nations is like the time between the Asr prayer and sunset. The example of you, the Jews, and the Christians is like a man who hires some people as laborers and says: 'Who will work for me until midday for one qirat each?' So the Jews worked until midday for one qirat each. Then the man said: 'Who will work from midday until Asr for one qirat each?' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: So the Christians worked from midday until Asr for one qirat each. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then you came and worked from Asr until sunset for two qirats each. At this, the Jews and Christians became angry. They said: 'We did more work but were given less compensation.' So the Lord said: 'Did I wrong you in regard to your rights?' They replied: 'No.' So the Lord said: 'This is My grace, I bestow it upon whom I will.'"
