أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : كُنْتُ أَسْمَعُ أَنَّهُ لا يَمُوتُ نَبِيٌّ حَتَّى يُخَيَّرَ بَيْنَ الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ ، قَالَتْ : فَسَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي مَرَضِهِ الَّذِي مَاتَ فِيهِ وَأَخَذَتْهُ بُحَّةٌ ، فَجَعَلَ يَقُولُ : " مَعَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنَ النَّبِيِّينَ وَالصِّدِّيقِينَ وَالشُّهَدَاءِ وَالصَّالِحِينَ ، وَحَسُنَ أُولَئِكَ رَفِيقًا سورة النساء آية 69 " ، قَالَتْ : فَظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهُ خُيِّرَ حِينَئِذٍ .
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us during the illness in which he passed away. He had a band tied around his head. I followed behind him until he stood on the pulpit. He said: It is as if I am standing at the Hawd (Pond) of Kawthar right now. Then he said: A servant was given the choice between the world and its adornments, and he chose the Hereafter. No one among those present understood this except Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). We said: May our parents be sacrificed for you, may we give our wealth, our lives, and our children as ransom for you. The narrator says: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) descended from the pulpit. After that, he was not seen again. (That is, after this, he passed away.)
