Hadith 657

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مَوْلَى ثَقِيفٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ أَبَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجُعْفِيُّ ، عَنْ فُضَيْلِ بْنِ عِيَاضٍ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَوْ يُؤَاخِذُنِي اللَّهُ ، وَابْنَ مَرْيَمَ ، بِمَا جَنَتْ هَاتَانِ يَعْنِي الإِبْهَامَ وَالَّتِي تَلِيهَا ، لَعَذَّبَنَا ثُمَّ لَمْ يَظْلِمْنَا شَيْئًا " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If Allah were to call me and the son of Maryam to account for the shortcomings of these two (fingers) (the Prophet, peace be upon him, pointed to his thumb and the finger next to it), and He were to punish us, He would not be doing us any injustice."
