Sayyiduna Amr bin Al-Aas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I did not see the Quraysh ever intending to kill the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Only one day did I see them sitting in the shade of the Ka'bah, and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was performing prayer near Maqam Ibrahim. Then Uqbah bin Abi Mu'ayt stood up and went towards the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He put the cloak of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) around his neck and then pulled it, until the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) fell to his knees. People started shouting. They thought perhaps he had been martyred. The narrator says: In the meantime, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived. He grabbed the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) from behind with both arms, saying: "Do you want to kill a man who says, 'My Lord is Allah, the Exalted'?" Then those people left the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and went away. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up, and when he completed his prayer, he passed by those people. They were sitting in the shade of the Ka'bah at that time. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O group of Quraysh, I have only been sent to you for slaughter (i.e., all of you will be killed fighting against me)." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) indicated towards his throat with his blessed hand while saying this. So Abu Jahl said to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), you are not one to respond harshly." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You too will be among them (i.e., those who will be killed among them)."
