Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Three such days came upon me in which I ate nothing. I was about to go to the platform of Suffah, but I fell down. The children started shouting loudly, "Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) has gone mad." So I began to answer them loudly. I said: "Rather, you people are mad," until we reached Suffah in that state. At that time, a bowl of tharid was presented to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had called the people of Suffah to eat it, and they were eating it. I tried to straighten myself so that they might invite me too (but nothing happened) until they (finished eating and) got up. In that bowl, only that which remains on the edges of the bowl was left. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gathered it, and it became a morsel. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) placed it between his fingers and then said to me, "Eat it, taking the name of Allah." (Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: By Him in Whose hand is my soul, I kept eating that one morsel for so long that I became full.)
