Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) made a peace treaty with the Quraysh (and set out towards Makkah to perform Umrah), when he reached the place of Marr az-Zahran, the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) received the news that the Quraysh were saying that such companions of Muhammad (peace be upon him) have pledged allegiance to him who are weak. So the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: O Messenger of Allah, if we slaughter our riding animals and eat their meat and fat, and drink their broth, then tomorrow when we appear before them, we will feel strong. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: No, bring to me whatever leftover (food and drink) you have. They spread out their dining cloths and put their leftover (food and drink) on it. The Prophet (peace be upon him) prayed for blessings for them. They ate from it until they were full, and the leftover food and drink they put into their bags. Then the next day they appeared before (the disbelievers of Quraysh), so the Prophet (peace be upon him) said to them, Let them not see any weakness in you. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his companions wrapped the Ihram sheet as in Idtiba‘, and in three circuits they performed Raml (brisk walking), and in four circuits they walked at a normal pace. The polytheists were present at that time in Hatim and near Dar an-Nadwah. When the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) came between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone, on the other side from them, they would walk at a normal pace, and when they came before them (the Quraysh), they would start running. So the Quraysh said: By Allah! They are like deer.
(Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, says:) Thus, this method became Sunnah.
