أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ بْنُ فَرُّوخٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : " مَا قَرَأَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الْجِنِّ ، وَمَا رَآهُمْ ، انْطَلَقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَطَائِفَةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ عَامِدِينَ إِِلَى سُوقِ عُكَاظٍ ، وَقَدْ حِيلَ بَيْنَ الشَّيَاطِينِ وَبَيْنَ خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ ، وَأُرْسِلَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ الشُّهُبُ ، فَرَجَعَتِ الشَّيَاطِينُ إِِلَى قَوْمِهِمْ ، فَقَالُوا : مَا لَكُمْ ؟ قَالُوا : حِيلَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ ، وَأُرْسِلَتْ عَلَيْنَا الشُّهُبُ ، قَالُوا : مَا ذَاكَ إِِلا شَيْءٌ حَدَثَ ، فَاضْرِبُوا مَشَارِقَ الأَرْضِ وَمَغَارِبَهَا ، فَانْظُرُوا مَا هَذَا الَّذِي حَالَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ ، فَانْطَلَقُوا يَضْرِبُونَ مَشَارِقَ الأَرْضِ وَمَغَارِبَهَا ، فَمَرَّ النَّفْرُ الَّذِينَ أَخَذُوا نَحْوَ تِهَامَةَ وَهُوَ بِنَخْلَةَ ، وَهُمْ عَامِدُونَ إِِلَى سُوقِ عُكَاظٍ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي بِأَصْحَابِهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلاةَ الْفَجْرِ ، فَلَمَّا سَمِعُوا الْقُرْآنَ ، قَالُوا : هَذَا الَّذِي حَالَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ ، فَرَجَعُوا إِِلَى قَوْمِهِمْ ، فَقَالُوا إِنَّا سَمِعْنَا قُرْآنًا عَجَبًا يَهْدِي إِلَى الرُّشْدِ فَآمَنَّا بِهِ وَلَنْ نُشْرِكَ بِرَبِّنَا أَحَدًا سورة الجن آية 2 - 2 ، فَأَوْحَى اللَّهُ إِِلَى نَبِيِّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : قُلْ أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ أَنَّهُ اسْتَمَعَ نَفَرٌ مِنَ الْجِنِّ سورة الجن آية 1 " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) did not recite to the jinn, nor did he see them. Once, the Prophet (peace be upon him) and some of his companions set out towards the market of Ukaz. This was the time when a barrier had come between the devils and the news of the heavens, and flaming meteors were being sent upon them. So the devils returned to their people, and those people said: What is the matter with you? They replied: A barrier has come between us and the news of the heavens, and now flaming meteors are being sent upon us. They said: This must have happened due to some new event that has occurred. You people should examine the eastern and western parts of the earth and find out what is the thing that has become a barrier between us and the news of the heavens. So those people set out in search of the eastern and western parts of the earth. Some of them passed by the direction of Tihamah. At that time, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was present in a date-palm garden. These people, on their way to the market of Ukaz, were in that date-palm garden, and the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was leading them in the Fajr prayer. When those jinn heard the recitation of the Qur’an, they said: This is the thing that has become a barrier between us and the news of the heavens. So those people returned to their people and said: “We have heard a Qur’an, wondrous indeed. It guides to the right path. We have believed in it, and we will never associate anyone with our Lord.” So Allah Almighty revealed to His Prophet: “Say: It has been revealed to me that a group of jinn listened attentively.”
