The son of Sayyiduna Salamah bin Akwa’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: My father related this hadith to me: We participated in the Battle of Hunayn along with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). The narrator says: When we confronted the enemy, I advanced and climbed a hillock. An enemy came face to face with me, so I shot an arrow at him. He disappeared from my sight. I did not realize what I should do. When I assessed the situation of the people, the enemy was appearing from another valley. They confronted the companions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), so some of the companions turned their faces and retreated. I also retreated and fell back. I was wearing two sheets, one of which I had tied as a lower garment and the other I had wrapped around my body. That sheet fell off, so I picked it up and wrapped it around myself. I passed by the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), who was in a state of retreat. At that time, he was mounted on his white mule. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Ibn Akwa’ has seen panic.” When the enemy surrounded the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), he dismounted from his mule. He took a handful of earth from the ground and threw it towards those people. He said: “May their faces be disfigured.” So, whoever among them was there, Allah Almighty filled his eyes with dust from that handful (which reached them), so those people turned their backs and fled. Allah Almighty made them retreat, and the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) distributed their spoils of war among the Muslims.
