أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ يُونُسَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي إِِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : كَانَتْ عِنْدَ أُمِّ سُلَيْمٍ يَتِيمَةٌ ، فَرَآهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " أَنْتِ هِيَ ؟ لَقَدْ كَبِرْتِ ، لا كَبِرَ سِنُّكِ " ، فَرَجَعَتِ الْيَتِيمَةُ إِِلَى أُمِّ سُلَيْمٍ تَبْكِي ، فَقَالَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ : مَا لَكِ يَا بُنَيَّةُ ؟ ، قَالَتِ الْجَارِيَةُ : دَعَا عَلَيَّ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ لا يَكْبَرَ سِنِّي ، فَالآنَ لا يَكْبَرُ سِنِّي أَبَدًا ، أَوْ قَالَتْ : قَرْنَيْ ، فَخَرَجَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ مُسْتَعْجِلَةً تَلُوثُ خِمَارَهَا حَتَّى لَقِيَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ لَهَا : " يَا أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ ، مَالَكِ ؟ " ، قَالَتْ : يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ، أَدَعَوْتَ عَلَى يَتِيمَتِي ؟ ، قَالَ : " وَمَا ذَاكَ يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ ؟ " ، قَالَتْ : زَعَمَتْ أَنَّكَ دَعَوْتَ عَلَيْهَا أَنْ لا يَكْبَرَ سِنُّهَا ، قَالَ : فَضَحِكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَقَالَ : " يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ ، أَمَا تَعْلَمِينَ شَرْطِي عَلَى رَبِّي ؟ إِِنِّي اشْتَرَطْتُ عَلَى رَبِّي ، فَقُلْتُ : إِِنَّمَا أَنَا بَشَرٌ أَرْضَى كَمَا يَرْضَى الْبَشَرُ ، وَأَغْضَبُ كَمَا يَغْضَبُ الْبَشَرُ ، فَأَيُّمَا أَحَدٍ دَعَوْتُ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أُمَّتِي بِدَعْوَةٍ لَيْسَ لَهَا بأهلٍ أَنْ يَجْعَلَهَا لَهُ طَهُورًا وَزَكَاةً وَقُرْبَةً يُقَرِّبُهُ بِهَا مِنْهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ " ، وَكَانَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَحِيمًا .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: There was an orphan girl with Sayyidah Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her). When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) saw her, he said: "Is it you? Your age will increase, but the age of your teeth will not increase." So that orphan girl went to Sayyidah Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) crying. Sayyidah Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) asked: "O girl, what happened to you?" The girl replied: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has supplicated against me that my teeth will not grow big. Now my teeth will never grow big." (The narrator is unsure, perhaps these are the words:) "My hair (will not grow big)." Sayyidah Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) quickly wrapped herself in her shawl and went out and presented herself before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked her: "O Umm Sulaym! What is the matter?" She said: "O Messenger of Allah, have you supplicated against my orphan girl?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "O Umm Sulaym! How is that?" Sayyidah Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "This girl has said that you have supplicated against her that her teeth will not grow big." The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled. He said: "O Umm Sulaym! Do you not know what I have agreed upon with my Lord? I have agreed with my Lord: I said, 'O my Lord! I am a human being. I become pleased just as other people become pleased, and I become angry just as other people become angry. So for any person from my Ummah against whom I supplicate something which he is not deserving of, then O Lord, make it a means for him to attain purity, cleanliness, and nearness, by which he will attain closeness to Allah Almighty on the Day of Resurrection.'" (The narrator says:) The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was very merciful.
