Hadith 6504

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: In my youth, I used to graze the goats of 'Uqbah bin Abi Mu'ayt. One day, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came to me and asked: O boy, do you have any milk? I replied: Yes, but I am entrusted (with them). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Bring me a goat that has not been mated by a male. So I brought a one-year-old kid. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took hold of it, then he passed his hand over its udder and supplicated, until its milk began to flow. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) brought something to serve the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) milked the goat into that vessel, then he said to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him): Drink. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) drank it, then after Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also drank it. Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the udder: Become dry, so it became dry and returned to its previous state. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Then I presented myself to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Teach me this speech (the narrator is unsure, perhaps these are the words) or teach me this Qur'an. So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed his hand over my head. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You are a boy who has understanding (or who will be taught). The narrator says: I learned seventy surahs from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself. No one can compete with me in this matter.
