Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates: When this verse was revealed: "And warn your close relatives," the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, gathered the Quraysh. He said: O group of Quraysh! Save yourselves from the Fire, for I do not possess any power to harm or benefit you in your regard. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said the same to the descendants of Abd Manaf. He said the same to the descendants of Abdul Muttalib. Then he said: O Fatimah, daughter of Muhammad! Save yourself from the Fire, for I do not possess any power to harm or benefit you, except that I have kinship with you. I will benefit you with that.
Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says: This narration is abrogated, because in it, it is mentioned that no person will intercede for another, but (the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him) was later granted the right of intercession in Madinah Munawwarah.
