أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ بَقِيَّةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ أَبِي هِنْدَ ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُكْثِرُ قَبْلَ مَوْتِهِ أَنْ يَقُولَ : " سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ ، أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ ، وَأَتُوبُ إِِلَيْهِ " ، قَالَتْ : فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِِنَّكَ لِتُكْثِرَ مِنْ دُعَاءٍ ، لَمْ تَكُنْ تَدْعُو بِهِ قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ ؟ قَالَ : " إِِنَّ رَبِّي جَلَّ وَعَلا أَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّهُ سَيُرِينِي عِلْمًا فِي أُمَّتِي ، فَأَمَرَنِي إِِذَا رَأَيْتُ ذَلِكَ الْعِلْمَ أَنْ أُسَبِّحَهُ ، وَأَحْمَدَهُ ، وَأَسْتَغْفِرَهُ ، وَإِِنِّي قَدْ رَأَيْتُهُ إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ سورة النصر آية 1 ، فَتْحُ مَكَّةَ " .
Sayyida Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used to frequently recite «سُبْحَانَ الله وَبِحَمْدِهِ، اسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ، وَاتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ» some time before his passing.
Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! You recite this supplication frequently, whereas before you did not use to recite it." So the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "My Lord has informed me that He will soon show me a sign regarding my Ummah. He has commanded me that when I see this sign, I should glorify Him, praise Him, and seek forgiveness from Him. So I have seen that thing." (That is this verse:) "When the help of Allah comes and..." By this is meant the conquest of Makkah.
