Hadith 6409

Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once, he was traveling with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) on a journey. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) about something. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) did not give him any answer. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked him again; the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) again did not give any answer. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked again, and the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) again did not give him any answer. So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) thought: O Umar! May your mother weep for you, you have asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) three times, and each time the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) did not give you any answer. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I moved my camel and started walking ahead of the people. I feared that perhaps some command of the Qur'an might be revealed about me. While I was in this state, I heard someone calling me in a loud voice. I came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and greeted him with salam. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Last night, a surah was revealed to me which is more beloved to me than anything upon which the sun rises (i.e., more beloved than the whole world). Then he recited this verse: "Indeed, We have given you a clear conquest, that Allah may forgive for you your past and future sins."
