Hadith 6408

أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ مَوْهِبٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَجْلانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ ، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " مَثَلِي وَمَثَلُ النَّاسِ كَمَثَلِ رَجُلٍ اسْتَوْقَدَ نَارًا ، فَلَمَّا أَضَاءَتْ مَا حَوْلَهُ ، أَقْبَلَ خَشَاشُ الأَرْضِ وَفَرَاشُهَا ، وَهَذِهِ الدَّوَابُّ الَّتِي تَقْتَحِمُ النَّارَ ، فَتُقْتَحَمُ فِيهَا ، وَهُوَ يَذُبُّهَا عنها ، فَأَنَا الْيَوْمَ آخِذُ بِحُجَزِ النَّاسِ : هَلُمُّوا إِِلَى الْجَنَّةِ ، هَلُمُّوا عَنِ النَّارِ ، فَهُمْ يَقْتَحِمُونَ فِيهَا " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "My example and the example of people is like that of a person who lights a fire. When the area around it becomes illuminated, insects and moths begin to fall into it. These are the creatures that want to enter the fire; they want to go into it. That person tries to prevent them from entering it. So today, I am holding people by their sides (saying), 'Come towards Paradise and save yourselves from Hell,' but they are trying to fall into it."
