Hadith 6402

أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بِحَرَّانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا النُّفَيْلِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الأَحْوَصِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : إِِنَّ مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُوتِيَ فَوَاتِحَ الْكَلامِ وَخَوَاتِمَهُ ، أَوْ جَوَامِعَ الْخَيْرِ وَخَوَاتِمَهُ . وَإِِنَّا كُنَّا لا نَدْرِي مَا يَقُولُ إِِذَا جَلَسْنَا فِي الصَّلاةِ حَتَّى عَلَّمَنَا ، فَقَالَ : " قُولُوا : التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ ، السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ ، السَّلامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِِلَهَ إِِلا اللَّهَ وَحْدَهُ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was granted words that begin and conclude speech (i.e., comprehensive and concise words). (The narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words:) He was granted comprehensive and conclusive words of goodness. We did not know what we should recite while sitting during prayer until the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught us this. He said: You should recite: "All kinds of verbal, physical, and financial worship are exclusively for Allah. O Prophet, peace be upon you, and the mercy and blessings of Allah. Peace be upon us and upon all the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah. He is the only One. He has no partner. And I bear witness that Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and His Messenger."
