Abu Hazim narrates: I asked Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d Sa’idi (may Allah be pleased with him): Did the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) ever eat bread made from sifted flour? Sayyiduna Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: From the time Allah Almighty sent him as a Prophet until his passing, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) never saw (i.e., never ate) bread made from sifted flour. I asked: Did you people have sieves during the blessed era of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)? He replied: From the time Allah Almighty sent the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) until his passing, he never saw a sieve. The narrator says: I asked, then how did you eat barley without sifting it? He said: Yes, we used to blow on it, whatever would fly away, would fly away, and whatever remained, we would knead it and eat it.
