أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْمِقْدَامِ الْعِجْلِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، عَنِ ابْنِ إِِسْحَاقَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ قَيْسِ بْنِ مَخْرَمَةَ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " مَا هَمَمْتُ بِقَبِيحٍ مِمَّا يَهُمُّ بِهِ أَهْلُ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ إِِلا مَرَّتَيْنِ مِنَ الدَّهْرِ ، كِلْتَاهُمَا عَصَمَنِي اللَّهُ مِنْهُمَا ، قُلْتُ لَيْلَةً لِفَتًى كَانَ مَعِي مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ بِأَعْلَى مَكَّةَ فِي غَنَمٍ لأَهْلِنَا نَرْعَاهَا : أَبْصِرْ لِي غَنَمِي حَتَّى أَسْمُرَ هَذِهِ اللَّيْلَةَ بِمَكَّةَ كَمَا يَسْمُرُ الْفِتْيَانُ ، قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، فَخَرَجْتُ ، فَلَمَّا جِئْتُ أَدْنَى دَارٍ مِنْ دُورِ مَكَّةَ سَمِعْتُ غِنَاءً ، وَصَوْتَ دُفُوفٍ ، وَمَزَامِيرَ ، قُلْتُ : مَا هَذَا ؟ قَالُوا : فُلانٌ تَزَوَّجَ فُلانَةَ ، لِرَجُلٍ مِنْ قُرَيْشِ تَزَوَّجَ امْرَأَةً مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ ، فَلَهَوْتُ بِذَلِكَ الْغِنَاءِ ، وَبِذَلِكَ الصَّوْتِ حَتَّى غَلَبَتْنِي عَيْنِي ، فَنِمْتُ ، فَمَا أَيْقَظَنِي إِِلا مَسُّ الشَّمْسِ ، فَرَجَعْتُ إِِلَى صَاحِبِي ، فَقَالَ : مَا فَعَلْتَ ؟ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ ، ثُمَّ فَعَلْتُ لَيْلَةً أُخْرَى مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ ، فَخَرَجْتُ ، فَسَمِعْتُ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ ، فَقِيلَ لِي : مِثْلُ مَا قِيلَ لِي ، فَسَمِعْتُ كَمَا سَمِعْتُ ، حَتَّى غَلَبَتْنِي عَيْنِي ، فَمَا أَيْقَظَنِي إِِلا مَسُّ الشَّمْسِ ، ثُمَّ رَجَعْتُ إِِلَى صَاحِبِي ، فَقَالَ لِي : مَا فَعَلْتَ ؟ فَقُلْتُ : مَا فَعَلْتُ شَيْئًا " ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " فَوَاللَّهِ ، مَا هَمَمْتُ بَعْدَهُمَا بِسُوءٍ مِمَّا يَعْمَلُهُ أَهْلُ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ ، حَتَّى أَكْرَمَنِي اللَّهُ بِنُبُوَّتِهِ " .
Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "I never intended to do any of the evil deeds that the people of the Age of Ignorance used to do, except on two occasions, and both times Allah Almighty saved me. (Then the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, explained:) Once, I was grazing my family's goats in the upper part of Makkah with a young man from the Quraysh. I said to my companion: Today, you take care of my goats. Tonight, I want to spend the night in Makkah as young men do. He said: Fine. I left from there, and when I reached a house at the far end of Makkah, I heard the sounds of singing, drum-beating, and musical instruments. I asked: What is this? The people replied: So-and-so has married so-and-so woman. They informed me about a Qurayshi man marrying a Qurayshi woman. I began to listen to the singing and the sounds. Meanwhile, sleep overtook me, and I fell asleep. The heat of the sun woke me up, and I returned to my companion. He asked: What did you do? I told him about it. The same thing happened the next night. I left from there. I heard similar sounds. I was told the same thing as before. I heard the same kind of sounds as before, until sleep overtook me again, and the heat of the sun woke me up. I returned to my companion. He asked: What did you do? I said: I did nothing. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: By Allah! After that, I never intended to do any evil deed that the people of the Age of Ignorance used to do, until Allah Almighty honored me with His Prophethood.
