أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْقَطَّانُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا نُوحُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِِدْرِيسَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ وَائِلٍ ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ ، قَالَ : بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِِلَى نَجْرَانَ ، فَقَالَ لِي أَهْلُ نَجْرَانَ : أَلَسْتُمْ تَقْرَءُونَ هَذِهِ الآيَةَ : يَا أُخْتَ هَارُونَ مَا كَانَ أَبُوكِ امْرَأَ سَوْءٍ وَمَا كَانَتْ أُمُّكِ بَغِيًّا سورة مريم آية 28 ، وَقَدْ عَرَفْتُمْ مَا بَيْنَ مُوسَى وَعِيسَى ؟ فَلَمْ أَدْرِ مَا أَرُدُّ عَلَيْهِمْ ، حَتَّى قَدِمْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ ، فَقَالَ لِي : " أَفَلا أَخْبَرْتَهُمْ أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا يُسَمُّونَ بِالأَنْبِيَاءِ وَالصَّالِحِينَ قَبْلَهُمْ ؟ " .
Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me to Najran. The people of Najran asked me: Do you not recite this verse: “O sister of Harun! Your father was not a bad man, nor was your mother an unchaste woman.”
(The people of Najran said:) You know how long the period was between Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) and Sayyiduna ‘Isa (peace be upon him), so how could Lady Maryam be the sister of Sayyiduna Harun (peace be upon him)? Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I did not understand what answer to give. I came to Madinah and presented this matter before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When I mentioned this to you, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Did you not tell them this: They used to name (their children) after the Prophets and righteous people who had gone before them, so the brother of Lady Maryam (may Allah be pleased with her) was also named Harun.
