أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الأَعْلَى بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ، عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي عَمْرَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فِيمَا يَحْكِي عَنْ رَبِّهِ جَلَّ وَعَلا ، قَالَ : " أَذْنَبَ عَبْدِي ذَنْبًا ، فقَالَ : أَيْ رَبِّ أَذْنَبْتُ ، فقَالَ : أَذْنَبَ عَبْدِي ذَنْبًا ، فَعَلِمَ أَنَّ اللَّهَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ وَيَأْخُذُ بِالذُّنُوبِ ، ثُمَّ عَادَ فَأَذْنَبَ ، فقَالَ : أَيْ رَبِّ أَذْنَبْتُ ، فقَالَ : أَذْنَبَ عَبْدِي وَعَلِمَ أَنَّ رَبَّهُ يَغْفِرُ الذَّنْبَ ، وَيَأْخُذُ بِالذَّنْبِ ، اعْمَلْ مَا شِئْتَ فَقَدْ غَفَرْتُ لَكَ " ، قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : قَوْلُهُ : " اعْمَلْ مَا شِئْتَ " لَفْظَةُ تَهْدِيدٍ أُعْقِبَتْ بِوَعْدٍ يُرِيدُ بِقَوْلِهِ : " اعْمَلْ مَا شِئْتَ " أَيْ : لا تَعْصِ وَقَوْلُهُ : " قَدْ غَفَرْتُ لَكَ " يُرِيدُ : إِذَا تُبْتَ .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding his Lord’s statement: “My servant commits a sin, then he says: O my Lord! I have committed a sin. So Allah Almighty says: My servant has committed a sin and he knows that Allah can forgive sins and can also hold accountable for sins. Then that servant commits a sin again and says: O my Lord! I have committed a sin. So Allah Almighty says: My servant has committed a sin and he knows that Allah can forgive sins and can also hold accountable for sins. (O My servant!) Do whatever you wish, I have forgiven you.” (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The words of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): “Do whatever you wish.” These are words of warning, behind which is a promise. And by the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) statement: “Do whatever you wish,” what is meant is: Do not disobey. And by the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) words: “I have forgiven you,” what is meant is, when you repent.
