Hadith 6249

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ السَّلامِ بِبَيْرُوتَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ سَيْفٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جُحَادَةَ ، عَنْ فُرَاتٍ الْقَزَّازِ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِِنَّ بَنِي إِِسْرَائِيلَ كَانَتْ تَسُوسُهُمُ الأَنْبِيَاءُ ، كُلَّمَا مَاتَ نَبِيٌّ ، قَامَ نَبِيٌّ ، وَإِِنَّهُ لَيْسَ بَعْدِي نَبِيٌّ " ، قَالُوا : فَمَا يَكُونُ بَعْدَكَ ؟ قَالَ : " أُمَرَاءُ وَيَكْثُرُونَ " ، قَالُوا : مَا تَأْمُرُنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ : " أَوْفُوا بِبَيْعَةِ الأَوَّلِ فَالأَوَّلِ ، وَأَدُّوا إِِلَيْهِمُ الَّذِي لَهُمْ ، فَإِِنَّ اللَّهَ سَائِلُهُمْ عَنِ الَّذِي لَكُمْ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Prophets used to lead the Children of Israel. Whenever a Prophet passed away, another Prophet would succeed him. There will be no Prophet after me." The people asked, "What will happen after you?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There will be rulers, and they will be many." The people said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! What do you command us to do?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Fulfill the pledge to the one to whom the pledge was first given, and give them their rights. Allah, the Exalted, will question them about your rights (i.e., He will take account from them)."
