Hadith 6214

أَخْبَرَنَا حُبَيْشُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ النِّيلِيُّ بِوَاسِطٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ الْقَطَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ : " لَيْسَ الْمُعَايِنُ كَالْمُخْبَرِ ، أَخْبَرَ اللَّهُ مُوسَى أَنَّ قَوْمَهُ فُتِنُوا ، فَلَمْ يُلْقِ الأَلْوَاحَ ، فَلَمَّا رَآهُمْ أَلْقَى الأَلْوَاحَ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Direct seeing is not like hearing. Allah Almighty informed Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) that your people have been put to trial, but he still did not throw down the tablets. However, when he saw the condition of the people himself, he threw down the tablets."
