أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي مُسْلِمُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ خُثَيْمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : لَمَّا جَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْحِجْرَ قَالَ : " لا تَسْأَلُوا نَبِيَّكُمُ الآيَاتِ ، هَؤُلاءِ قَوْمُ صَالِحٍ سَأَلُوا نَبِيَّهُمْ آيَةً ، فَكَانَتِ النَّاقَةُ تَرِدُ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنْ هَذَا الْفَجِّ ، وَتَصْدُرُ مِنْ هَذَا الْفَجِّ ، فَيَشْرَبُونَ مِنْ لَبَنِهَا يَوْمَ وُرُودِهَا مِثْلَ مَا غَبَّهُمْ مِنْ مَائِهِمْ ، فَعَقَرُوهَا ، فَوُعِدُوا ثَلاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ ، وَكَانَ وَعْدٌ غَيْرُ مَكْذُوبٍ ، فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّيْحَةُ ، فَلَمْ يَبْقَ تَحْتَ أَدِيمِ السَّمَاءِ رَجُلٌ إِِلا أَهْلَكَتْ ، إِِلا رَجُلٌ فِي الْحَرَمِ مَنَعَهُ الْحَرَمُ مِنْ عَذَابِ اللَّهِ " ، قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، مَنْ هُوَ ؟ ، قَالَ : " أَبُو رِغَالٍ أَبُو ثَقِيفٍ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by the settlement of the people of Thamud, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not demand miracles from your Prophet, because the people of Salih (peace be upon him) demanded a miracle from their Prophet. So, from this path, a she-camel came out to them and used to return by this path. The people used to drink the milk of this she-camel. On the day when the she-camel would come to drink water, only as much water would be available as she would come for, according to a set schedule. Those people cut the legs of that she-camel, so it was promised to them that (punishment would come) within three days. This was a promise that could not be broken. Then a mighty blast seized them, and every person under the sky was destroyed except for the one who was within the boundaries of the Haram. The Haram protected him from Allah’s punishment. The people asked: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Who was that person? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The ancestor of the Thaqif tribe, Abu Righal.
