أَخْبَرَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ مُجَاشِعٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَتَّابٍ الأَعْيُنُ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَارِثُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ الْخَطْمِيُّ ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْمِسْوَرِ بْنِ مَخْرَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي رَافِعٍ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ : أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " مَا كَانَ مِنْ نَبِيٍّ إِِلا كَانَ لَهُ حَوَارِيُّونَ يُهْدُونَ بِهَدْيِهِ ، وَيَسْتَنُّونَ بِسُنَّتِهِ ، ثُمَّ يَكُونُ مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ أَقْوَامٌ يَقُولُونَ مَا لا يَفْعَلُونَ ، وَيَفْعَلُونَ مَا يُنْكِرُونَ ، فَمَنْ جَاهَدَهُمْ بِيَدِهِ ، فَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ ، وَمَنْ جَاهَدَهُمْ بِلِسَانِهِ ، فَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ ، وَمَنْ جَاهَدَهُمْ بِقَلْبِهِ ، فَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ ، لَيْسَ وَرَاءَ ذَلِكَ مِنَ الإِِيمَانِ مِثْقَالُ حَبَّةٍ مِنْ خَرْدَلٍ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Every prophet has some disciples who follow his guidance and act upon his Sunnah. Then, after them, there come people who say things but do not act upon them, and they do deeds which they themselves consider sinful. So whoever strives against them with his hand is a believer, whoever strives against them with his tongue is a believer, and whoever strives against them with his heart is a believer. And after that, there is not even the weight of a mustard seed of faith."
