أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ سِبَاعِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ كُرْزٍ ، أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " أَقِرُّوا الطَّيْرَ عَلَى مَكُنَاتِهَا " . قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : قَوْلُهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَقِرُّوا الطَّيْرَ عَلَى مَكُنَاتِهَا " ، لَفْظَةُ أَمْرٍ مَقْرُونَةٌ بِتَرْكِ ضِدِّهِ ، وَهُوَ أَنْ لا يُنَفِّرُوا الطُّيُورَ عَنْ مَكُنَاتِهَا ، وَالْقَصْدُ مِنْ هَذَا الزَّجْرِ عَنْ شَيْءٍ ثَالِثٍ ، وَهُوَ أَنَّ الْعَرَبَ كَانَتْ إِذَا أَرَادَتْ أَمْرًا جَاءَتْ إِلَى وَكْرِ الطَّيْرِ فَنَفَّرَتْهُ ، فَإِنْ تَيَامَنَ مَضَتْ لِلأَمْرِ الَّذِي عَزَمَتْ عَلَيْهِ ، وَإِنْ تَيَاسرَ أَغْضَتْ عَنْهُ ، وَتَشَاءَمَتْ بِهِ ، فَزَجَرَهُمُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ اسْتِعْمَالِ هَذَا الْفِعْلِ بِقَوْلِهِ : " أَقِرُّوا الطَّيْرَ عَلَى مَكُنَاتِهَا " .
Sayyida Umm Karz (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: She heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Let the birds remain in their nests."
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Let the birds remain in their nests," these words imply that the opposite should be abandoned, meaning that birds should not be driven out of their nests. Through this prohibition, something else is being forbidden, and that is: it was the custom of the Arabs that when they intended to do something, they would go near a bird's nest and drive the bird away. If the bird flew to the right, the person would proceed with what he intended to do, and if it flew to the left, the person would not do it and would consider it a bad omen. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade people from adopting this practice and used these words: "Let the birds remain in their nests."
