Lady Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Once the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) came to her and a woman was treating Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) (the narrator is unsure, perhaps these are the words) by performing ruqyah on her. So the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: Treat her according to the Book of Allah.
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The statement of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): "Treat her according to the Book of Allah," by this he meant that you should treat her in a way that the Book of Allah has declared permissible, because the people before, in the time of ignorance, used to perform ruqyah with such words in which there was shirk (polytheism), so the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) forbade them from performing ruqyah with such words. However, the ruling is different for that which the Book of Allah has declared permissible and in which there is no shirk.
