Sayyiduna Miqdam (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "Whoever leaves behind a debt or dependents, they will come to us, and whoever leaves behind wealth, it will go to his heirs. Whoever has no mawla (patron), I am his mawla; I will pay his ransom and inherit his wealth. And whoever has no mawla, his maternal uncle is his mawla; he should pay his ransom and inherit his wealth."
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) This narration has been heard by Rashid bin Sa'd from Abu 'Amir from Sayyiduna Miqdam (may Allah be pleased with him), and he has also heard this narration from 'Abdur Rahman from Sayyiduna Miqdam (may Allah be pleased with him), and both of its chains are preserved, although the texts of these two narrations differ from each other.
