أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ الْجُمَحِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ مِغْوَلٍ ، عَنْ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ مُصَرِّفٍ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أَبِي أَوْفَى هَلْ أَوْصَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ قَالَ : مَا تَرَكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَيْئًا يُوصِي فِيهِ ، قُلْتُ : فَكَيْفَ يَأْمُرُ النَّاسَ بِالْوَصِيَّةِ ؟ قَالَ : " أَوْصَى بِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ " .
Talhah bin Musarrif reports: I asked Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him): Did the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) make any bequest (wasiyyah)? He replied: The Prophet (peace be upon him) did not leave anything for which he needed to make a bequest. I asked: Then why did he (peace be upon him) command people to make bequests? He replied: He used to instruct them according to the command of Allah Almighty’s Book.
