أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ يُوسُفَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَهْضَمِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : جَلَسَ رَجُلانِ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَحَدُهُمَا أَشْرَفُ مِنَ الآخَرِ ، فَعَطَسَ الشَّرِيفُ ، فَلَمْ يَحْمَدِ اللَّهَ ، وَعَطَسَ الآخَرُ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ ، فَشَمَّتَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، عَطَسْتُ فَلَمْ تُشَمِّتْنِي ، وَعَطَسَ هَذَا فَشَمَّتَّهُ ؟ ! ، فقَالَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ هَذَا ذَكَرَ اللَّهَ ، فَذَكَرْتُهُ ، وَأَنْتَ نَسِيتَ فَنَسِيتُكَ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Two men were sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). One of them had a more honorable status than the other. The honorable man sneezed, but he did not praise Allah. The other man sneezed, and he praised Allah, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) responded to his sneeze. The first man said: O Messenger of Allah! I sneezed, but you did not respond to me. This man sneezed, and you responded to him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: He mentioned Allah, so I mentioned him, and you forgot, so I also forgot you.
