أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ النَّاقِدُ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : كَسَعَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ رَجُلا مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ ، فَقَالَ الأَنْصَارِيُّ : يَا لَلأَنْصَارِ ، وَقَالَ الْمُهَاجِرِيُّ : يَا لَلْمُهَاجِرِينَ ، قَالَ : فَسَمِعَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاكَ ، فَقَالَ : " مَا بَالُ دَعْوَى الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ ؟ ! " فَقَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ كَسَعَ رَجُلا مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ ، فَقَالَ : " دَعُوهَا فَإِنَّهَا مُنْتِنَةٌ " ، فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبَيِّ ابْنُ سَلُولٍ : قَدْ فَعَلُوهَا ، لَئِنْ رَجَعْنَا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ لَيُخْرِجَنَّ الأَعَزُّ مِنْهَا الأَذَلَّ ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ : دَعْنِي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَضْرِبْ عُنُقَ هَذَا الْمُنَافِقِ ، فَقَالَ : " دَعْهُ ، لا يَتَحَدَّثُ النَّاسُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا يَقْتُلُ أَصْحَابَهُ " ، قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ : قَوْلُهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " فَإِنَّهَا مُنْتِنَةٌ " يُرِيدُ أَنَّهُ لا قِصَاصَ فِي هَذَا ، وَكَذَلِكَ قَوْلُهُمْ : فَإِنَّهَا ذَمِيمَةٌ ، وَمَا يُشْبِهُهَا .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man from among the Muhajirun struck a man from among the Ansar, so the Ansari said: "O Ansar (come to my help)!" The Muhajir said: "O Muhajirun (come to my help)!" The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) heard this call and said: "What is this way of calling from the time of ignorance?" The people said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! A man from among the Muhajirun struck a man from among the Ansar." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Leave it, it is a foul thing." Upon this, (the chief of the hypocrites) Abdullah bin Ubayy said: "These people have done this; when we return to Madinah, the honorable people will expel the lowly ones from there." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! Allow me to strike the neck of this hypocrite." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Leave him! Otherwise, people will say that Muhammad kills his companions."
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), "It is a foul thing," by this he meant that in such a situation, retribution (qisas) is not applicable. Similarly, when people say: "It is a blameworthy thing," other such words will have the same meaning.
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), "It is a foul thing," by this he meant that in such a situation, retribution (qisas) is not applicable. Similarly, when people say: "It is a blameworthy thing," other such words will have the same meaning.
