Humaid bin Hilal narrates: Abu Aliah and one of my companions came to me. They said: "You come, you are young and you remember more hadiths than me." So we set out until we reached Bishr bin Asim Laithi. Abu Aliah said: "Narrate hadith to these two." Bishr narrated this incident. Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated to us: He belonged to their tribe. He narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) dispatched an expedition. They attacked a certain people. One man from among them separated himself. One of the members of the expedition went to him with a drawn sword. The (man who had separated) said: "I am a Muslim," but (the pursuer) did not pay attention to his words and attacked him, killing him. When this news reached the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), he expressed severe anger about it. The killer was informed of this. The narrator says: While the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was delivering a sermon, the killer said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! By Allah, he only said this word to save himself from being killed." The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) turned away from him and from those on his side. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) continued his sermon. The man repeated the same thing and said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! He only said this to save himself from being killed." The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) again turned away from him and from those on his side. The man could not remain patient, until he said the same thing a third time. Then the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) turned towards him, anger visible on his face, and said: "Indeed, Allah has made it forbidden for me to kill any believer." The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said this three times.
