Nasr bin Asim Laithi narrates: We, some people from Banu Laith, went to Yashkari. He asked, "Which tribe do you belong to?" We replied, "Banu Laith." We asked him questions, and he asked us questions. People said, "We have come to you to ask about the hadith narrated from Sayyiduna Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him)." So he said, "We were returning from a battle, and we were with Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him). He said that animals had become expensive in Kufa. Then my companion and I sought permission from Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him), and he granted us permission. So we arrived in Kufa in the early part of the day. I said to my companion, 'I am going to the mosque. When the market opens, I will come to you.' When I entered the mosque, there was a gathering there. The people’s heads were completely still, and they were listening to one person. The narrator says, 'I came and stood near them. Then another person came and stood by my side. I asked this person, "Who is this gentleman?" He asked, "Are you from Basra?" I replied, "Yes!" He said, "I had guessed so, because if you were from Kufa, you would not ask about this gentleman. This is Sayyiduna Hudhaifah bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him), a companion of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." I moved closer to him and heard him saying: People used to ask the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about good, and I used to ask the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about evils, because I knew that good would not surpass me. I asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Will there be any evil after this good?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "O Hudhaifah, acquire knowledge of the Book of Allah and follow the commands in it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this to me three times. I asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Will there be any evil after this good?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "There will be trials and evil." I asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Will there be any good after this evil?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "A truce upon impurity (hudnatun 'ala dukhan)." I asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), what is meant by 'a truce upon impurity'?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "People’s hearts will not return to the state they were in before." I asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), will there be any evil after this good?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "O Hudhaifah, acquire knowledge of the Book of Allah and follow the commands in it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this three times. He asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), will there be any evil after this good?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "There will be such a trial that will make one blind and deaf. In that tribulation, there will be people who will call towards Hell. O Hudhaifah, if you die in such a state that you are holding onto the trunk of a dry tree with your teeth, that will be better for you than following any one of them."

(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The narrator named Yashkari is Sulaiman.
