أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَبَّانُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي عِمْرَانَ الْجَوْنِيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ ، أن رسول اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَهُ : " يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ ، كَيْفَ تَفْعَلُ إِذَا جَاعَ النَّاسُ حَتَّى لا تَسْتَطِيعَ أَنْ تَقُومَ مِنْ فِرَاشِكِ إِلَى مَسْجِدِكَ ؟ " فَقُلْتُ : اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ ، قَالَ : " تَعَفَّفْ " ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " كَيْفَ تَصْنَعُ إِذَا مَاتَ النَّاسُ حَتَّى يَكُونَ الْبَيْتُ بِالْوَصِيفِ ؟ " قُلْتُ : اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ ، قَالَ : " تَصْبرُ " ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " كَيْفَ تَصْنَعُ إِذَا اقْتَتَلَ النَّاسُ حَتَّى يَغْرَقَ حَجَرُ الزَّيْتِ ؟ " قُلْتُ : اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ ، قَالَ : " تَأْتِي مَنْ أَنْتَ فِيهِ " ، فَقُلْتُ : أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ أَتَى عَلَيَّ ؟ قَالَ : " تَدْخُلُ بَيْتَكَ " ، قُلْتُ : أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ أَتَى عَليَّ ؟ قَالَ : " إِنْ خَشِيتَ أَنْ يَبْهَرَكَ شُعَاعُ السَّيْفِ ، فَأَلْقِ طَائِفَةَ رِدَائِكَ عَلَى وَجْهِكَ ، يَبُوءُ بِإِثْمِكَ وَإِثْمِهِ " ، فَقُلْتُ : أَفَلا أَحْمِلُ السِّلاحَ ؟ قَالَ : " إِذًا تَشْرَكُهُ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Dharr Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: O Abu Dharr! What will be your condition when hunger will become widespread among the people, to the extent that you will not even have the strength to get up from your bed and reach the mosque? I said: Allah and His Messenger know best. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Try to protect yourself. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: What will you do at that time when people will die, to the extent that a house (meaning a grave) will be obtained in exchange for a servant? I said: Allah and His Messenger know best. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Be patient. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: What will you do at that time when people will fight with each other, to the extent that the place of Hajar Zait will be submerged (in blood)? I said: Allah and His Messenger know best. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Remain where you are (i.e., do not go outside). I said: What is your opinion if they still reach me? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then go inside your house. I said: If they still reach me, what is your opinion? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you fear that the flash of the sword will disturb you, then place the edge of your sheet over your face; that person will bear the burden of his and your sin. I said: Should I not take up arms against him? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: In that case, you will become equal to him.
