Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade sitting on the thresholds of houses. The people said: O Messenger of Allah! We are not able to avoid it and we do not have the strength (i.e., we are compelled to do so). The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If that is the case, then fulfill its rights. The people asked: What are its rights, O Messenger of Allah? The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Responding to greetings, replying to one who sneezes and praises Allah, lowering the gaze, and guiding the way.
