Qasim bin Makhool narrates: I heard my father narrate—he had the opportunity to witness both the era of ignorance and Islam. He narrates: I tied some ropes at the place of Abwa, and a deer got trapped in those ropes, but then it escaped from there. I went out in search of it and found a man who had caught it. We brought our case regarding the deer to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and we found you encamped under a tree at Abwa. The Prophet (peace be upon him) had made shade with a piece of leather. We presented our case to you, and you decided that it would be divided equally between us both. I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), sometimes we find some camels among which are milch she-camels whose udders are full of milk, and we are in dire need of it. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Call the owner of the camels three times; if he comes, then fine, otherwise milk it and drink, then milk it again, and then leave some milk (in its udder). I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), sometimes another animal comes to us, so if we give it something to drink, will we get a reward for it? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Yes, there is a reward for doing good to every living being. After that, the Prophet (peace be upon him) began to converse with us. He said: Soon a time will come when the best wealth will be sheep that are between two prostrations; they will eat (leaves) from the trees, come to the water, their owner will follow behind them, drink their milk, wear clothes from their wool (the narrator is unsure, perhaps these are the words), wear clothes from their hair, while by Allah, tribulations will have spread among the Arabs. I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! Advise me about this. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Perform prayer, give zakat, fast in Ramadan, perform Hajj to the House of Allah and Umrah, treat your parents well, maintain the rights of kinship, honor the guest, enjoin good, forbid evil, and remain with the truth wherever it may be.
