Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a man running after a pigeon and said, "One devil is going after another devil."
(Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The action of a person who plays with pigeons leads to a situation that Allah Almighty dislikes, so whoever commits something that Allah dislikes is a sinner, and it is permissible to call a sinner a devil, even if he is from the children of Adam. Allah Almighty has said: "Devils from among mankind and jinn." So Allah Almighty has used the word 'devil' for the sinner from both groups. Similarly, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used the word 'devil' for the pigeon metaphorically, because here the sinner's action is related to that pigeon.
