Hadith 5853

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَرُوبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ وَهْبِ بْنِ أَبِي كَرِيمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحِيمِ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَبِي أُنَيْسَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ السَّبِيعِيِّ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنَّ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلامُ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَفِي بَيْتِ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سِتْرٌ مُصَوِّرٌ فِيهِ تَمَاثِيلُ ، فَقَالَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " ادْخُلْ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّا لا نَدْخُلُ بَيْتًا فِيهِ تَمَاثِيلُ ، فَإِنْ كُنْتَ لا بُدَّ جَاعِلا فِي بَيْتِكَ ، فَاقْطَعْ رُءُوسَهَا أَوِ اقْطَعْهَا وَسَائِدَ ، وَاجْعَلْهَا بُسُطًا " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Jibreel (peace be upon him) came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). There was a curtain in the house of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on which there were pictures. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Come inside. He replied: We do not enter a house in which there are pictures. If you (peace and blessings be upon him) must use them in your house, then cut off their heads, or cut them and make cushions or mats out of them.
