The companion of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Indeed, the angels do not enter a house in which there is a picture." The narrator named Basar states that later he became ill, and we went to visit him. There was a curtain hanging at his door on which there was a picture. I said to Ubaidullah Khawlani: Did he not narrate to us the hadith (about the picture), and yet he has put up this cloth? So Ubaidullah said: Did you not hear him say that the ruling regarding designs on cloth is different (i.e., it is permitted)?
