أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُوسَى بِعَسْكَرِ مُكْرَمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَعْمَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : " أَرَادَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يَنْهَى أَنْ يُسَمَّى بِبَرَكَةَ ، وَأَفْلَحَ ، وَيَسَارٍ ، وَنَافِعٍ ، وَنَحْوِ ذَلِكَ ، ثُمَّ رَأَيْتُهُ سَكَتَ عَنْهَا بَعْدُ ، فَلَمْ يَقُلْ شَيْئًا ، وَقُبِضَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، ثُمَّ أَرَادَ عُمَرُ أَنْ يَنْهَى عَنْ ذَلِكَ ، فَتَرَكَهُ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to prohibit giving names such as Barakah (Blessing), Aflah (Successful), Yasar (Ease), Nafi’ (Beneficial), and other similar names. Then I saw that after this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent and did not say anything about this matter. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away. After that, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) intended to do so, but then he also abandoned it.
