Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not name your slave Rabah, Najeeh, Yasar, or Aflah." (Perhaps the narrator says:) These are four names; do not add to them. Shaykh Abu Hatim states: There is a possibility that the reason for the prohibition of naming slaves with these four names mentioned in this narration is that it was close to the time of polytheism; they used to name their slaves with these names, thinking that with the name Rabah there would be benefit, with the name Najah there would be success, with the name Yasar there would be prosperity, and with the name Falah there would be success, and that this does not come from Allah Almighty. Therefore, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade people from giving these names.
