Hadith 5786

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ قُتَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي السَّرِيِّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنِ الزُهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَدْ أُنْزِلَ فِي الشِّعْرِ مَا قَدْ أُنْزِلَ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ الْمُؤْمِنَ يُجَاهِدُ بِسَيْفِهِ وَلِسَانِهِ ، وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ ، لَكَأَنَّمَا تَرْمُونَهُمْ نَضْحَ النَّبْلِ " .
Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), the ruling regarding poetry that was to be revealed has been revealed (so what do you say now)?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "A believer strives with his sword and with his tongue. By Him in Whose hand is my soul, you (by satirizing them) are as if you are striking them with spears."
