Hadith 5782

أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ الْجُمَحِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدُ بْنُ مُسَرْهَدٍ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الشَّرِيدِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : أَرْدَفَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَلْفَهُ ، فَقَالَ : " هَلْ مَعَكَ مِنْ شِعْرِ أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ أَبِي الصَّلْتِ ؟ " فَقُلْتُ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : " هِيهِ " ، فَأَنْشَدْتُهُ بَيْتًا ، فَقَالَ : " هِيهِ " ، ثُمَّ أَنْشَدْتُهُ ، فَلَمْ يَزَلْ يَقُولُ : " هِيهِ " وَأُنْشِدُهُ حَتَّى أَتْمَمْتُ مِائَةَ بَيْتٍ .
Amr bin Shuraid narrates from his father that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) seated me behind him on his mount. The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked: Do you remember any poetry of Umayyah bin Abi al-Salt? I replied: Yes. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Recite it. I recited a verse to him. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Recite more. I recited again to him. The Prophet (peace be upon him) kept saying to me: Recite more, until I had recited one hundred verses to him.
