Hadith 5726

أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُكْرَمِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْبِرْتِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمَدِينِيِّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى الْقَطَّانُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ ، عَنْ عِيَاضِ بْنِ حِمَارٍ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ، الرَّجُلُ مِنْ قَوْمِي يَشْتُمُنِي وَهُوَ دُونِي ، أَفَأَنْتَقِمُ مِنْهُ ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الْمُسْتَبَّانِ شَيْطَانَانِ يَتَهَاتَرَانِ وَيَتَكَاذَبَانِ " .
Sayyiduna Iyad bin Himar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I submitted, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), a person from my tribe abuses me. He is of a lower status than me. Should I take revenge on him?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Both individuals who abuse each other are two devils. They quarrel and they lie."
