Imam Sha’bi narrates: The secretary of Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) told me this: Sayyiduna Mu’awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote a letter to Sayyiduna Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him) asking him to write and send any hadith that he had heard from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). So Sayyiduna Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him) dictated the following: I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “Indeed, Allah the Exalted has disliked three things for you: pointless argumentation, wasting wealth, and asking (or begging) excessively.” Ibn ‘Ulayyah says: Wasting wealth means spending it unjustly.
