Sayyiduna Dhamdham bin Jaus (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I entered the mosque of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and there was an elderly man whose hair was dyed yellow and whose teeth were extremely bright. With him was a young man who was very handsome and youthful. The old man said: O Yamami, come forward. Never say to anyone, "May Allah not forgive you." By Allah, Allah will never admit you to Paradise. I asked, "Who are you? May Allah have mercy on you." He replied: "I am Abu Hurairah." I said: "Such words are sometimes used by one of us for his wife or servant when he expresses anger at them." Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Do not say this, because I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: 'Among the Children of Israel there were two men who were brothers to each other. One of them was devoted to worship and the other was a sinner. The worshipper saw the sinner committing a sin and said to him: 'Reduce this.' The other man replied: 'Leave this matter between me and my Lord.' The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: The worshipper repeated his words to him, and the other man gave the same reply: 'Leave me and my Lord.' Until one day, the worshipper saw him committing a sin and considered his sin to be great. He said: 'Woe to you! Refrain from sinning.' The other man said: 'Leave me and my Lord. Were you sent as a watcher over me?' The worshipper said: 'By Allah, Allah will never forgive you.' (The narrator is unsure, perhaps these were the words.) Or he said: 'Allah will never admit you to Paradise.' (The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:) Then an angel was sent to both of them, who took their souls. They both appeared before Allah, the Exalted. The Lord asked the worshipper: 'Are you a scholar, or do you have power over what is in My control, or do you prevent My mercy from reaching My servant?' (Then He said to the sinner:) 'Go to Paradise.' (The narrator says: That is, Allah said this to the sinful person.) And to the other He said: 'Take him to Hell.' (The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, or perhaps Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, said:) 'By Him in Whose hand is my soul, he uttered a word that destroyed his world and his Hereafter.'"
